A great wave in Philippine palliative health care is growing, with the DOH administrative policy and other exciting developments taking shape. We were so glad to have over fifty participants join us for our End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium – Core Course last August 17 & 18. More people need to know how much comfort and peace palliative care offers those with declining health.

A big thank you again to our partners at the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute & College of Nursing for their invaluable help during this two-day course.

TRF Receives Mention in the 2016 ELNEC Awards

We thank the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) organization for honoring the work we do alongside the other members of the Asian Leadership Team with a 2016 ELNEC award.

The Asian team, composed of trainers from China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, received the award for “their exceptional commitment in teaching, promoting, disseminating, and implementing ELNEC.” One other international team and eight individuals received the award as well.

To quote a portion of the citation:

“In the Philippines, the Ruth Foundation for Palliative and Hospice Care (TRF) has been involved in organizing annual ELNEC-Core trainings from 2012-2016. Much of this work has been developed and overseen by Rumalie Corvera, MD and Ayda Nambayan, PhD, who have taught over 400 nurses. In 2016, the first ELNEC-Pediatric Palliative Care course was held with Dr. Nambayan as the core faculty consultant.”

“When cure is no longer possible, care is.” This saying is central to palliative and hospice care, and through our Leadership for HOPE Education Program, the foundation strives to spread this message to all who can make a difference. Last May 26, The Ruth Foundation held ELNEC-Core, the End-of-life Nursing Education Consortium Introductory Course to Palliative and Hospice Care. This was a one-day training held at St. Luke’s Medical City – Global City in BGC, Taguig. After the standard eight module lecture, our friends from Sonoran Winds Hospice gave a short talk on hospice care abroad based on their practices in California.

Over 50 participants filled the lecture room.
