Good Work
Our staff have been working from home most of this year. We have a skeletal workforce that has rotating schedules at our office during the week. IATF and DOH guidelines in tow, we have adjusted to the new normal by being able to strengthen relationships with our patients through teleconsultations. A lot different from our regular home visits, but we want to ensure the safety of both our patients and team members.
Our Baliktanaw session last June 19 was attended by 4 family representatives of patients we had that passed away. The group was led by our Patient Care team and Pastor Spencer. This is part of our bereavement care project.
We had a successful training program, Introduction to Palliative Care, last March 24-25, 2021, which was held via Zoom. A total of 58 attendees participated and 12 speakers shared their topics. The live sessions were really interactive and each participant was eager to open up during the sharing portion of the session.
BLESSINGS
We’ve had the privilege to launch a letter writing program, Liham ng Pag-asa, wherein our volunteers reach out to selected patients through handwritten friendly letters which are delivered during benevolent fund distributions. We’ve received one response and our volunteers are looking forward to writing to more patients. When interviewed by Ms. Lira, our social worker, about the letter writing experience, the patient said,
"Masaya po ako kasi may parang nakakausap ako na nailalabas ko ang mga nasa saloobin ko. Para akong bumalik sa pagiging teenager. Hindi lang ho ako nakakasagot kaagad kasi nagkakataon na may ginagawa ho ako tulad ng sa dialysis ko at paglalakad ng mga requirements para makahingi ng financial assistance. "—Patient Q
Another opportunity arose when one pediatric patient requested to own a dog. One of our nurses, Nurse Jelai usually has her dog, Cloud would be available during video telehealth services, which most of our patients enjoy the company of virtually.
Last July 1, the team brought over a sweet 2-month-old Shih Tzu x Japanese Spitz puppy which was given to our patient who named him Mint. Technically, our first emotional support puppy.
Abundance at all times
We would like to thank all of our benefactors who have continually given to our cause in the midst of the pandemic. Thank you all for allowing us to be a channel of blessing to our patients through your generosity and because of that, patient needs have been met. Your kindness has greatly impacted our patient’s quality of life.
In March, with donations coming in, we were also able to provide additional hi-flow machines and medical supplies to Asian Hospital and Medical Center and The Medical City- South Luzon to aid in these hospitals’ fight against COVID.
Truly, we a blessed to be able to claim this passage from 2 Corinthians 9:8 which says, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
