Christmas Season 2019

Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas. -Dale Evans

Gift Giving: December 2019

We can’t find the exact words to express how grateful we are for all of you who donated to make our 2019 Gift Giving Event possible.  107 NCR patients and 20 Baguio patients of ours were blessed to receive Christmas goodies which included a Noche Buena set and other groceries. Our 17 pediatric patients received additional towels and toys with their Noche Buena packages too. These were distributed from December 18-23, 2019, during our scheduled home visits. Thank you all for making this holiday season extra special by encouraging our patients through these tokens.

We appreciate you all and we look forward to being in partnership with you by sharing hope this 2020.

Christmas Party: December 21, 2019

A joint Christmas party, hosted by "KAAGAPAY Batch 96" the spouses of the PNPA Batch ’96, was held at Lyceum College- Alabang last December 21, 2019. They provided the food and groceries for all those who attended. We were blessed to a part of this event- - -  all  130 patients with their family members and 20 staff and volunteers from The Ruth Foundation.

That same day, the Pangarap Masonic Lodge #448 joined and they distributed pillows and Mercury Drugstore Gift Certificates, to the patients and family members present. It was such a treat to also see Senator Angara in the group.

It was the first time for patients and their family members with TRF staff, volunteers and donors come together to celebrate Christmas.

ELNEC Geria

Last November 25-26, 2019 at the Asian Hospital Cancer Institute in Alabang, Muntinlupa, The Ruth Foundation was privileged to partner with Asian Hospital and Medical Center to educate fellow health care providers about hospice and palliative care in the field of Geriatrics.

Dr. Roger Strong and Nurse Mylene Lumanog from San Diego, California, who are both ELNEC trainers, were special resource speakers during that event, along with Dr. Ayda Nambayan, Dr. DJ Pedro, Dr. Rumalie Corvera and Dr. Nanette Ramilo-Cruz.  Effective communication towards geriatric patients was discussed and strategies to hold critical conversations were given. Participants were able to learn how to manage the common signs and symptoms of these patients, including pain, spiritual and psychological symptoms. There were a total of 37 participants.

One part of the event program was called Blessing of the Hands, wherein the participants, speakers and  organizers lined up to have their hands washed with water, symbolizing the blessing of God-given hands that spread compassionate service to others.

We hope to see you in our upcoming 2020 trainings. Kindly follow our Facebook page and our website to be updated with our training schedules.

Compassionate Communities for Taal

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Mother Theresa

Last February 3, 2020, The Ruth Foundation drove out to Barangay Ulat, Silang Cavite to give out 50 relief packs filled with groceries and hygiene kits to the church extension and neighbors of Evangel Baptist Fellowship. Yesterday, February 14, 2020, TRF teamed up with a couple of civil society groups, to share hope and compassion to the people who were evacuated from Taal’s volcano island at Seabreeze Residences, Barangay Talaibon, Ibaan, Batangas City.

178 families, including 30 Senior Citizens and PWDs, benefited from care packages containing hygiene kits and medicine (paracetamol, antacid and loratadine). 200 children received packs containing school supplies and t-shirts.

Along with Dr. Mae Corvera and TRF staff and volunteers, we would like to acknowledge the presence of the following, who made time to be a part of this heartfelt event:

Ms. Angie Laborte, TRF’s Board Representative

Pastor Hizon and volunteers from Greenhills Christian Fellowship-Batangas City

BFP Marshal Elaine Evangelista and volunteers of the Bureau of Fire Protection- Batangas City

We appreciate you all for being a part of our Compassionate Community. Blessings to you.

Hope For Taal

Taal Volcano erupted last January 12, 2020, spewing ashes in the areas of CALABARZON, Metro Manila and some parts of Central Luzon. This event has changed the lives of many people, especially those whose homes, families and livelihoods were directly affected. Many families are left homeless, being displaced in evacuation centers and homes of relatives in safer places. It has been a couple of weeks since Taal created havoc and the media has died down a bit, moving on to the next big story, leaving people stuck with their new reality- - - their reality of starting a new life from scratch. Compassion is more than giving a box of relief goods, but leaving people with the sense of hope to start anew.

Today, 7 members of our TRF team drove out to Barangay Ulat, Silang, Cavite to give out 50 relief packs filled with groceries and hygiene kits to the church extension and neighbors of Evangel Baptist Fellowship. 50 families were blessed to receive these packages.
