Founding President

Doc Mae is a Family Medicine and Palliative Medicine Specialist and founder of The Ruth Foundation. She advocates Palliative Care in the community level through the foundation. In spite of her busy schedules, and multiple ‘hats’ she wears, she makes sure that her three kids and her husband are happy.

 
 
 
 
 

Dr. djhoanna G. AGUIRRE-pedro

Medical Director for Patient Care

DJ, as she is fondly called, is a Faculty member and consultant in the Department of Family and Community Medicine of the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Medicine. Apart from the work she does for TRF, she is also a volunteer physician and Hospice and Palliative Specialist for Ayala Alabang Hospice and Mission Community Services or MICOS.

 

Dr. Maricar Sabeniano

Director for Flagship Systems and Partnerships Unit

Car is a Family Medicine and Palliative Medicine Specialist. She actively advocates for equitable access to palliative care and community empowerment through TRF's Volunteer Program, Compassionate Communities, and PalCollab. Outside of TRF, she serves as the Palliative Medicine fellowship training officer at Healthway Cancer Care Hospital and Faculty at the Philippine General Hospital Division of Supportive Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

 

DR. RUTH ORILLAZA-CHI

Director For Research & Quality Unit

Ruth is has over two decades of experience in private and public sector engagement, Global Fund and USAID funded health system strengthening projects, Hospice and Palliative Medicine with a unique expertise in integrating palliative care into infectious disease programming. She is also a Member of the Board of the Philippine Society of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Chair of the PSHPM Training Accreditation Committee. At TRF, she oversees research quality, data integrity and ethical conduct, while also managing personnel and resources efficiently.

 

B-Etta “Babes” Ayon

Director for Resource Management and External Affairs/ ETHOS

Babes has had 19 years of experience in administration and management with a foundation based in Alabang. At TRF, she is in charge of providing operational leadership​ for the foundation’s services and advocacy. She ensures quality and good governances through effective resource use and priority goal setting.


Patient Care Unit

 

Jelai Ausan, RN

Assistant Director for Patient Care

Jelai oversees our nurses and social workers. She manages tools, schedules, team needs, and interdepartmental collaborations—while ensuring that compassion remains at the heart of every action.

 

ANGELYN VALDELLON, RN

Full-time Nurse

Nurse Ange is the newest addition to our Patient Care Unit. As a provider of hospice and palliative care, her primary responsibility is to address the comprehensive needs of our patients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.

 

EDERLYN TICALA, RSW

Full-time Social Worker

Eder is responsible in accomplishing case profiles for all TRF patients, in line with the DSWD Requirements; while coordinating and providing psycho-social support to patients and their families, alongside the multidisciplinary palliative care team. 

 

laurice salas-collarga, RSW

Part-time Social Worker

Laurice coordinates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. She participates in team meetings, case conferences, and family meetings to facilitate communication and decision-making.

 

KATHLEEN MAE DECENA, RPT

Part-time Physical Therapist

As the Patient Care Unit’s physical therapist, Mae plays a crucial role in helping patients recover from injuries, manage pain, and improve their overall physical well-being through an individualized physical therapy plan.

 

DR. Nenacia Ranali NIrEna ‘Rana” Mendoza

Doc Rana is a Family Medicine Specialist. She has been supporting the Palliative and Hospice advocacy even before then. She and her husband Doc Majo, both work hand in hand, not only with the advocacies of the foundation, but also in ministry at their local church.

Dr. Arabelle Coleen P. Ofina

Dr. Ara, a Palliative Care Specialist, shares her energy, time, and smiles with our patients and their family members during home visits. She takes the lead in family conferences aside from regular medical consultations. She is currently a visiting consultant at Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. NANETTE RAMILO-CRUZ

“Nette” is a Family Medicine Specialist. In her heart and mind, life becomes more meaningful when caring for patients and their families at home – providing a more personal touch to patient care.

 

Dr. Marianne JOY Naria-Maritana

Marianne is a pediatrician assigned at the Child Protection Unit and a fellow of the Ambulatory Pediatrics at Philippine General Hospital. In 2014, up to the present, she is the Project Coordinator of KULAY, an organization that provides art and other activities to children in need of medical care, specifically cancer patients. She is also an advocate of pediatric palliative care. Hence, in 2018 she joined TRF as a visiting HCP Physician.

Dr. Mark Joseph “Majo” M. Mendoza

Dr. Majo is a Certified Family Physician and Palliative Care Specialist. He is known to lend a good ear to our patients, and spends additional time in assisting them and their families in coping with their spiritual needs. Though he has a hectic schedule, he still finds time to be active in church ministry.

MIKEE HAFALLA, RN

Assistant Director for Flagship Systems and Partnerships Unit

Mikee is a nurse with a background in dialysis nursing and twelve years of experience in palliative care, where she has supported patients and families through training and advocacy efforts. She is dedicated to advancing access to palliative care and empowering communities. Through her work, she strengthens both the knowledge and capacity of healthcare providers and volunteers to deliver compassionate, quality, patient-centered care.

 

MARILOU TUPAZ, RN, MSN

External Affairs Officer

Malou is an experienced nurse leader and External Affairs Officer of The Ruth Foundation. With a strong background in patient care and healthcare management, she previously served as Nurse Supervisor and Nurse Navigator at TRF, as well as Head Nurse and Shift Manager at Makati Medical Center, Chief Nurse at Westlake Medical Center, and Director of Patient Care Services at Sonoran Winds Hospice Philippines. She is known for her ability to build meaningful partnerships and connect with stakeholders, helping expand palliative care awareness and advocacy. Through her work, she strengthens collaborations that support TRF’s mission of accessible, compassionate care.

 

SHANELLE Jopio-SION, RN

Compassionate Community Program Coordinator

Shanelle is a dedicated palliative care nurse at The Ruth Foundation, with nine years of experience supporting patients and families. She previously served as a Charge Nurse and Oncology Staff Nurse at Perpetual Help Medical Center, where she developed a strong foundation in cancer care. At TRF, she focuses on building compassionate communities and empowering individuals to take an active role in care and support, advancing palliative care advocacy at the grassroots level.

 

MITCH TALAVERA, RN

PalCollab Program Coordinator

Mitch is a palliative care nurse at The Ruth Foundation with seven years of experience providing compassionate, patient-centered care. She plays a key role in coordinating services and navigating patients and families through available support systems. Through her work, she ensures that individuals receive timely, holistic care while strengthening connections between patients and service providers.

 

ERIC BASIWA, RN

Volunteer Program Coordinator

Eric is a palliative care nurse with nearly three years of experience supporting patients and families through compassionate, holistic care. He draws from his clinical practice to teach and mentor volunteers, helping build their confidence and competence in delivering palliative care. Through his guidance, he strengthens the quality of palliative care support within the community.

Tim has been a physical therapist for our palliative care patients for years. Now under the Research & Quality Unit, he interprets and presents palliative care research to collaborators.

Dr. Raymond Oliver A. Cruz

Content Writer a.k.a The Medical Philosopher

Doc Raymond is a Diplomate and Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians. He acquired his medical degree from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and had his residency training at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

With Sheryl’s advertising and marketing experience, she helps oversee the communication efforts of TRF to help raise awareness about our mission to make palliative care accessible to those in need.
